Pandafan is Alt-Folk from the NY/LI Metro area.
Inspired by the haunting harmonies of bands like Fleet Foxes and The Staves, and finding kindred spirit the complex and detailed production of bands like The Decemberists and Lord Huron, Pandafan takes influences ranging from Lead Belly to Tame Impala and adds their own intricate harmonic spin. The result is a unique vocal blend and energetic melodies.
Delaney Hafener is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. She holds a degree in studio production from SUNY Purchase. Grace DeNatale is a classically trained violinist with an innate ability to sing and write complex lyrics.
Delaney and Grace first played together as an acoustic duet at a high school talent show. Pandafan came to life around the kitchen table as a trio soon after. Delaney and Grace have weathered the ups and downs typical of any band, staying committed to the vision through personnel changes, style adjustments and college.
In 2018, Pandafan is experiencing a rebirth, with the infusion of new talent, new passion and new direction. Drummer/percussionist Yasmeen Baratali is a conservatory educated musician, bringing a fresh layer of complexity to performances. Multi-instrumentalist Emma Steen plays fretless bass, giving Pandafan a steady, melodic low-end. Joining Delaney and Grace on vocals is accomplished jazz vocalist Taylor Burgess, also a graduate of the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase.
Pandafan is a very versatile band; they are comfortable performing in any configuration, from an acoustic duet to a full band with drum kit and bass. They perform as a duo, trio, or five piece.
Pandafan has played dozens of venues in several northeastern states, including Rock City Cafe in Rockland ME, Radio Bean in Burlington VT, Shrine Music Venue, Rockwood Music Hall, Sidewalk Cafe and The Mercury Lounge in Manhattan as well as The Knitting Factory and Wayward Social in Brooklyn, the LIC Bar in Long Island City, Porch Stomp Folk Festival and more. Upcoming shows include The Bug Jar in Rochester, Ithaca Underground, Gypsy Sally’s in DC, and Silvana in Harlem.
